SkillsUSA

Mission:

To help each student excel in attaining knowledge and skills to enter into America’s skilled work force.

SkillsUSA is a national student-led organization that is designed to help students get ready for their future. Students involved in SkillsUSA get opportunities to practice their

  • personal skills like responsibility and work ethic,
  • workplace skills such as teamwork and communication, and
  • technical skills that are specific to the class they are taking.

SkillsUSA provides invaluable opportunities to help students bridge the gap between the classroom and their eventual workplace. That’s what Skills is about – making our students career-ready from their first day on the job, whether that’s right after high school, technical school, military service, or college! We aim for students to be able to walk into a skilled job and do that job well.

SkillsUSA was formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America). SkillsUSA is cited as “a successful model of employer-driven youth development training program” by the U.S. Department of Labor and is an OSHA Alliance partner. Over 1,100 business, industry and labor sponsors support SkillsUSA through financial donations, in-kind donations, and human resource involvement.

Every year, students from CCTC compete at the state and national level using the skills they learn at our school.

Pictured below are some pictures from our most recent trip to Atlanta for the National Leadership and Skills Conference.

One of our fun excursions this year was a trip to the zoo, where we got up close and personal with a few animals!
